The Way of a Master

“There are no children who are cowards. The timid ness is a product of defective education. The children who learn Jiu-Jitsu are courageous and loyal.”

Carlos Gracie

The introduction of Jiu-Jitsu in Brazil, was a long process, that involved much work. Thanks to the Gracie family, true warriors in the battle camp, Jiu-Jitsu today is recognized here and in the World as an efficient means of fighting, that is easy to learn. But I believe the biggest lesson of all this history was learning that Jiu-Jitsu does not need to be only recognized for it’s efficiency and technique, but also, as an excellent sport to be practiced and taught in schools, helping to inform and educate the children, and presenting in the academies and schools Jiu-Jitsu as a healthy activity, that is attractive to all, athletes and beginners. What brought me to train Jiu-Jitsu was a philosophy of life created by the Gracie family, based on a healthy diet, in daily Jiu-Jitsu training, witch teaches us principally, to have a posture dignified and correct, that every fighter should have whatever the problem or adversity.

It was before this lesson learned and in my growth in the sport that brought up the idea of the first school of Jiu-Jitsu, as a method of teaching formatted exclusively for children’s training. Jiu-Jitsu is a Martial Art that posses a natural magic while practiced, that captivates all, not only for the efficiency as self defense but principally for the ease with witch it can be learned. And when well taught, the great value prepares us for life, teaching us to always take the best path and make the right decision in a clear and secure way. But every professor should understand that there is a natural path to learning for each student. To train a tough guy of an athlete is not a difficult task. Truthfully, the true professor is the guy who teaches those students who never train or don’t do any type of sports activity. There exists a phase from Master Helio Gracie that is known among us: “When a student does not know how to execute a movement that is being taught, it is not him who is making the mistake, it is the professor who is not finding the right form or path, for him to execute that technique with efficiency”.

These are some concepts that all of our professors, should put into practice. Search for the best way to teach your student, for him to execute the technique that is being proposed with efficiency and security, conditioning the study of Jiu-Jitsu in a more ample way, and understanding that before we are all educators. And that our school of Jiu-Jitsu should be always be prepared t o receive all types of students. The adult and children beginners should be motivated and should have their time and space, organized and specified, so that these new students feel secure and confident in the beginning of their Jiu-Jitsu training.
